What does post-click vs. post-view mean?

Post-click refers to a tracking method that measures the effectiveness of online advertising by analyzing the behavior of users who perform a defined action—such as a purchase, registration, or download—immediately after clicking on an ad. This metric directly assesses the response to an ad and indicates how well it generates qualified traffic.

Post-view, on the other hand, measures reach by tracking users who saw an ad but didn’t click on it—yet still completed a desired action within a certain timeframe. It assumes that simply viewing the ad influenced user behavior. However, post-view tracking is often less accurate, as it captures indirect effects and cannot easily exclude external influences.

Why post-click is better than post-view:
Post-click is considered more precise and reliable because it’s based on clearly measurable actions directly triggered by a user’s click. It allows advertisers to definitively attribute conversions to specific campaigns. Post-view, by contrast, only tracks potential impact through ad visibility, which makes the results harder to validate.
